"In light of the horrific events in Manchester and the raising of the threat level to 'critical', I have spoken with the Thames Valley Police Area Commander for Reading, Superintendent Stan Gilmour, to seek information and reassurance for the public.
"Firstly, and most importantly, there is no current identified threat to Reading. Local residents and commuters into the town should not worry unduly and should go about their normal business.
"However, the Police are keeping this under constant review and people should remain vigilant. If anything changes the public in Reading will be informed immediately.
"Local people will see higher profile policing of major local hubs such as Reading Station and The Oracle. This is an important precautionary measure focused on enhancing safety and security.
"For those Reading FC fans travelling to Wembley on Monday, Reading Police will be liaising with their Metropolitan Police colleagues to ensure fans are as safe as possible. There is no word yet as to whether troops will be deployed, but there will be an increased presence of armed Metropolitan Police officers and the FA has confirmed enhanced security.
"National and local campaigning will continue to be suspended today.
"My thoughts remain with all those who've been affected and my sincere thanks go to our emergency services and the people working tirelessly to support those impacted."
