Rob is calling on his Reading East constituents to report potholes in a bid to rescue Reading’s roads. As part of the national Pothole Action Fund, Reading has been granted £60,000 of Government funding to fill an estimated 1,132 potholes. As a result, the Council will be setting up a Pothole Repair Plan to address potholes of a lesser depth than the normal investigatory criteria (50mm). This is in addition to the annual road resurfacing plan.
Rob said, “I have received a substantial increase in the volume of correspondence to my office regarding the state of Reading’s roads and the frustration felt by constituents about how many potholes throughout the borough are simply unavoidable. It’s clear that the problem is widespread and requires comprehensive action to rectify the defects.
“The Government funding is welcome news for families and businesses locally who rely on a well-maintained road network and are increasingly concerned about the potentially hazardous nature of some of our road surfaces. I trust that the Council will move swiftly to establish the framework of its Pothole Repair Plan and act without further delay to address some of the more prevalent and hazardous potholes across the borough.
“I encourage residents to report any pothole concerns to my office so that I can make the local councils and Highways Teams aware and they can establish how best to resolve any major or minor defects. I will continue to monitor the roads in Reading East and press both the Borough Councils to deliver improvements whenever they are required.”
