Rob will be joining a national campaign to raise awareness of the eye condition nystagmus. Rob and a number of other MPs will be joining the Nystagmus Network in a campaign to raise awareness of the condition and to provide better facilities for those affected.
Nystagmus is an eye condition that mainly develops in young children, but may also develop in later life. The condition causes involuntary eye movement that seriously impairs vision, as a result many of those affected are unable to drive.
The condition is estimated to affect over 60,000 people and is incurable.
The campaign included a briefing session for MPs, hosted by Teresa Pearce MP. Rob will follow up this meeting by contacting local Clinical Commissioning Groups to ensure the right facilities exist for those affected by nystagmus.
Rob said: “Nystagmus is a little known condition that causes life changing problems to those who are affected by it. There are various symptoms, such as increased light sensitivity and poorer depth perception, that have an obvious effect; but also some symptoms that make it difficult for those affected to operate within society.
“It’s important that we do what we can to support people who have this sadly incurable condition.”
