Rob welcomed the £383,040 that has been granted to the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust from the Radiotherapy Innovation Fund.
Utilising a range of state-of-the-art technologies and techniques, radiotherapy is a cost effective method used to deliver 40% of curative treatments for cancers.
Last year the Prime Minister David Cameron announced the launch of the Cancer Radiotherapy Innovation Fund so that all patients who need advanced radiotherapy would get access to it.
Specifically focusing on Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) and other innovative radiotherapy techniques, the fund has allowed around 5,800 more patients access to IMRT nationwide.
Rob said: “The advances that radiotherapy has brought to cancer treatment has been remarkable. Around 40% of people who survive cancer will have received radiotherapy as part of their treatment and even more could stand to benefit. It’s only right therefore that we make radiotherapy as widely available to people needing the treatment as possible. The Radiotherapy Innovation Fund is making radiotherapy much more available and the £383,040 that has been granted will save lives across Berkshire.”
