On Monday 22nd May, Rob Wilson, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Reading East, joined parents at Chiltern Edge School to discuss the school’s future as a sponsored academy.
Rob spoke to the packed hall of parents about the actions he has taken working with Henley candidate John Howell to secure academy status for the school. These include making representations to the Secretary of State for Education, and holding constructive conversations with Academy Trusts, the leader of Oxford County Council and to the Regional Schools Commissioner.
Moira Green, who will take up the post of Head Teacher in June, was also in attendance to explain the process of becoming a sponsored academy and her plans to take the school on a journey of improvement.
Rob said after the meeting, “The school is receiving tremendous support from parents, demonstrated clearly by the amazing turnout at tonight’s meeting.
“Since the Ofsted report, I have been determined to do my utmost to ensure that Chiltern Edge remains open.
"I am confident that academisation will go ahead following my discussions with Ian Hudspeth, Leader of Oxford County Council, and Martin Post, Regional School’s Commissioner. Martin has recently written to me to outline the next steps of this process.
“I spoke to parents this evening to give reassurance that the school has a bright future and to stress the importance of continued support to the school in the months ahead. It is vital that families continue to engage in the consultation process to show the strength of support here.
“I share the commitment of students, parents and teachers to Save Our Edge and I am confident that we will be able to secure the school’s future as a sponsored academy."
