Rob Wilson, MP for Reading East since 2005, has confirmed that he will be standing for re-election on 8th June.
Commenting on the decision, Rob said: “I intend to stand for re-election in Reading East and will be campaigning hard on my strong record of delivering for all local people.
“Since being elected in 2005, I have worked tirelessly on behalf of my constituents to drive growth in jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities; support local businesses so that our economy is robust and enterprise can flourish; secure vital funding for new and existing schools, transport infrastructure and our NHS services; and accelerate unprecedented progress towards a Third Thames Bridge.
“My dedication to Reading East and its residents remains steadfast as ever; fundamentally, ever-improved opportunities and life chances are at the heart of everything I do, and my priority is to ensure that our area is a great place to live, work, start a business or raise a family.
“The Prime Minister has set out a clear vision for our country and has a track record of stable, effective leadership in the national interest. Whenever her political opponents have looked only to entrench division, she has consistently sought unity. This is a message I will be reinforcing in Reading East, whilst continuing to emphasise my own commitment, experience and strong personal record of delivering tangible outcomes for my constituents.”
Chairman of Reading East Conservative Association (RECA), David Stevens, added: “On behalf of RECA, I am delighted that Rob Wilson is seeking re-election. However they voted in last year’s referendum, Conservatives across the constituency have come together to support our excellent candidate, who boasts an enormously impressive record of standing up and delivering for local people in Reading East.”
