I was delighted to be re-elected for a third term as the Member of Parliament for Reading East.
It has been a huge privilege to represent this constituency in Westminster for the past 10 years and I look forward eagerly to the next five years under a majority Conservative Government.
I'm very grateful for all the support I received during the campaign and to everyone who helped us achieve such an important victory. Rest assured however that I will continue to represent all of my constituents to the best of my ability and with the hard work and diligence to which I hope you have become accustomed. Whilst we may not always agree on every issue, I will always listen to and consider alternative viewpoints.
We have made great progress over the past five years, both locally and nationally. There has been an over-arching focus on making sure we have a strong and stable economy, the proceeds of which have been used to invest in vital public services, cut taxes for hard working people and help plug the country's every-shrinking deficit. The British people have given the Conservative Party a clear mandate to continue our fiscally responsible approach, rejecting a seemingly regressive Labour Party.
At the local level Reading East has benefitted from huge investment in transport infrastructure, the creation of new primary and secondary schools and extra money when needed for our NHS. We have also witnessed a boom in employment, having created the right environment in which businesses have been able to invest and expand.
Over the next five years I will work to implement the pledges on which I stood for re-election. I will work closely with businesses to ensure the conditions are right locally for growth and job creation; continue to lead the campaign for the much-needed Third Thames Bridge; champion further choice and diversity in our education system; ensure timely access to GPs and investment to improve our health services; support charities and voluntary organisations to protect the most vulnerable in our society; and engage with and hold to account the decision-making of local authorities.
Above all I will continue to represent you both locally and nationally and be on hand to lend assistance wherever I am able to do so. As ever, if you require any help or support, or have a question, please do not hesitate to contact me on the details below.
I look forward to working hard for Reading East to repay the trust shown in me as your elected representative.
Thank you for again putting your trust in me,
Rob Wilson MP
