It's been one of those periods when you don't get a moment's peace and quiet! With the Autumn Statement coming up, negotiations with Ministers about constituency matters, a busy constituency diary and everything else on top, it's been non-stop. Just the way I like it.
But lots of great things are happening for my Reading East constituents. Progress on the Maiden Erlegh Free School is good, I think I may be on the verge of another transport related breakthrough for town (to add to the Heathrow link and the Station) and the UTC will be opened by Royalty, are just a few highlights.
All this feeds into an emerging feel good factor in my constituency, where the economy is motoring ahead, employment is up, house prices are rising, inflation has dropped, small companies are thriving.
I'm sure Reading being voted the best place to live and Woodley as a top town to bring up your family is all part of the success story. After the disastrous legacy handed over in 2010, it's great to be turning the corner.
I'm far from saying 'We've never had it so good' but the huge investment going into Reading from Government is securing our long term success as a place for business and inward investment. Creating the wealth we all need to keep improving all our lives.
Despite great progress, we are still not finally out of the period where all incomes have been squeezed. It's still a struggle for some families and we still have to pay back the massive debt the country has built up. But I'll say more about this after the Autumn Statement.
Sometimes though, it's important to look ahead at our future as a community and see the cup half full and leave those who are carping and negative to one side. Reading East is on the up and everybody deserves my thanks for that!
