I am pleased to say that the Government shares my own commitment to maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and stands opposed to any form of cruelty.
I appreciate the strong feelings on both sides that many people have on the Hunting Act and I share their concern for ensuring the welfare of all animals.
The Prime Minister has said that a majority Conservative Government will give Parliament the opportunity to repeal the Hunting Act on a free vote.
In the event of such a vote, I will listen carefully to the views of my constituents and follow the debate closely before making a decision on how to vote. However, I am inclined not to vote for a reversal of the legislation at present.
